With so many painting contractors in Cumming and Alpharetta surrounding areas, it’s hard to know what to look for when hiring a professional painter.  That’s why we’ve put together this list tips you should consider for selecting the right painting contractor in Cumming and Alpharetta.

  • Cumming has more painters and painting companies than you can stick a stake at – good, bad, and ugly.   Don’t be impatient when making this decision.  Take your time, ask questions, do some research on several recommended companies.
  • Find out how long they’ve been in business, do they have a good reputation?  Be sure to this, because, if you do, you will “thank your lucky stars” at a later date!
  • Do they do free estimates?
  • Do they have competitive pricing?
  • If the job you want done is expected to take less than eight (8) days to complete, there is no need for you to provide up-front money to the painter or paint contractor. This type of request could be a sign that the painter has a lack of available credit from paint and/or material suppliers.
  • When you receive an estimate from a painter, do not just go to the bottom line and make your decision on how much money you will be charged. First off, the estimate itself should be detailed down to every line item of paint work, repair work, and replacement work you have explained to the painter or the estimator.  Again, take your time going through this document, as you want to be perfectly clear with him that you are comparing “apples to apples”.
  • If you are replacing water damaged wood trim on the outside of your house, make it clear that you expect replacements to be with non-rot materials (pvc, vinyl, etc.). These non-rot materials last forever, and only cost a fraction more compared to wood replacement materials.  If you don’t specify this in the estimate, it could be an opening for the painter to use some dated wood trim he’s been holding on to for a while.
  • Be sure you let the painter or estimator know early if you plan to make major color changes on the inside or outside of the house, because this factor can change the volume of paint need to cover the old underlying color to your new desired color. Earthly Matters Painting guarantees complete coverage (inside and outside) to owner’s satisfaction.
  • Verify the fact that any painting company you intend to use is fully insured with Workers Comp and Liability Insurance. Earthly Matters is fully licensed, insured, and a member of the Better Business Bureau.
  • Regarding liability, here is another tip of interest. It is important that, during the job, do not help the workers do any part their specific manual job or lend them any of your tools.  If a worker is injured on the job while you are assisting him, or while he is using one of your tools, you may be considered liable through what is called a “tort claim”
