Our standard prep work for exterior paints:

Pressure wash all exterior painted surfaces in order to remove dirt and mildew to maximize paint adhesion, caulk all cracks, putty nail holes, scrape and sand all peeling and flaking paint, spot prime all bare or weathered wood, and check and clean gutters.

Cover all sensitive plant material with plastic/tarps and maintain a clean work area during and after completion of the work.
